Things to do
Moving can be both exciting and daunting. Here are five helpful tips to make the experience less strenuous and more organized:
Start making plans well in advance for your move by creating a checklist of tasks you must accomplish, such as packing, hiring movers (if necessary), notifying parties of your address change and scheduling utility transfers. Planning ahead can make moving less stressful!
Moving can provide the ideal opportunity to sort through and organize your belongings. Explore each room to identify which items really belong in the new place; donate, sell or dispose of anything no longer used or required as this will not only lighten your load but also save time and effort during packing.
Packing efficiently is key to a smooth transition. Make use of sturdy boxes, packing materials such as bubble wrap or newspaper, and label each box according to its contents and room; group items from one room together in each box to make unpacking simpler; fragile items should be wrapped carefully and marked "fragile."
Create a list of parties you must notify about your change of address, such as the post office, utility companies, banks, insurance providers, schools and subscription/membership organizations. Make sure mail will continue being forwarded until it reaches its new home - but updating important contacts about this change of address is also key!
Before your arrival at your new home, put together an essentials box that contains toiletries, clothes, important documents, basic kitchen utensils and chargers you may require right away. By having these items readily accessible at all times, this box will save time by being easily accessible at first sight.
Bonus Tip! Take Care of Yourself. Moving can be physically and emotionally draining. Make sure you take breaks, stay hydrated, and sleep enough; listen to what your body tells you and seek assistance if necessary from friends or family members.
By following these tips and keeping an optimistic attitude, your transition will be smoother and more enjoyable.
